​Sitting astride the Equator, the Galápagos is 21 volcanic islands.  The best way to visit here is by cruise ship which will offer both land and sea excursions.  By land, where you can get that close up encounter with the Galápagos tortoise.

Charles Darwin Research Station

Charles Darwin’s ‘On the origin of species’ changed the way that we understood the natural world.  Founded in 1964 as a base for scientists, biologists and their support staff it is only right that this research station should be named after him.  The village of Puerto Ayora in Academy Bay, Santa Cruz Island also has an exhibition about the Galápagos Islands.
Galápagos Snorkelling
​Snorkelling and diving are popular tours where you can swim with seals and the incredible assortment of marine life around these islands.  Visit Floreana Island. where a collapsed volcanic crater, known as the Devil’s Crown has eroded to form an underwater haven teeming with fish. 
San Cristóbal (Chatham) Island
​San Cristóbal (Chatham) Island is the capital of the Galápagos the archipelago.  A favourite with bird lovers as it is home to the Boobies.  Both the more common Blue and the rarer Red Boobies can be seen here.
Sierra Negra (Black Mountain)
​Sierra Negra (Black Mountain) is a large, 1,124 metre high, active volcano on Isabela Island.  When it is deemed safe to do so, guided tours start at Puerto Villmil and progress along the rim of the caldera.  You will also visit the lava fields and see the amazing Technicolor volcanic rock.
